Hope Shines Team at Ridley Health Awareness Day 2012

    This time last year Hope Shines held a t-shirt designing contest with every kid that visited our table at Ridley Health Awareness Day. We asked the kids to draw what makes them happy. The day was such a great success with lots of wonderful entries but, one little girl stuck out to us. This young artist was 10-year-old Ridley resident, Jade Hartfuss. As we (The Hope Shines Team) watched Jade draw a cute little cheerful monkey, our eyes all lit up! Her mother, Cathy, then opened up to us about losing her 11-year- old baby brother (Jade's uncle) to suicide 15 years ago. This story touched our hearts and made Jade's little monkey an

inspiration to us all! So when it came to choosing a drawing to be used on our official t-shirt, it was a no-brainer!

    Jade and her family are very excited about Jade's win and so are we! We asked Jade's mom to tell us a little bit about her shining little girl. She told us, "Jade is a very sweet, loving and kind child." "She wants to be an artist and a veterinarian when she grows up. Her favorite hobbies are drawing and  collecting anything that is a monkey or has monkeys on it." (We love that!) When we asked where she finds HOPE and what makes her SHINE, Jade

said she finds hope in helping sick or hurt animals and she shines in her school work and drawings. Mom says, "We have a lot of pets and she has a lot of compassion for them." "She is a very hard worker and takes pride in what she does." 

   The purpose of this contest was to inspire a young artist to follow their own dreams! We'd like to congratulate Jade on her win! How exciting it must be to know that your very own design is going to be worn by many for a great cause! Thank you for letting us recruit your little monkey as the Official Hope Shines 2013 mascot!!    T-Shirts in 3 different colors will be available for purchase at the Hope Shines Festival on April 13th in Upper Darby. All proceeds will go to To Write Love On Her Arms.
